Moving doesn’t have to be an all-day affair. If you plan it right and know how to pack a moving truck, you can move across the Twin Cities in just a few hours and still have time to sing Weird Al, learn the Napoleon Dynamite dance or visit the House of Balls.
But how do you make moving easier and faster if you have all this stuff you gotta load up?!
Don’t fret —- we’ve dedicated our entire lives to searching tips and tricks to loading moving trucks so you can get from point A to point B — or even to the point of no return — in no time. After all, if you aren’t moving efficiently and loading moving trucks in a manner that will save you time, what’s the point?
Here are some tips to help you learn how to pack a moving truck to make moving easier.
Get ALL the Hands
Want to make moving easier? Step one is to gather your closest friends, local movers in Minneapolis or some randos off the street and put them to work. The more hands you have, the faster your move will go. Plus, if you don’t know how to pack a moving truck, maybe they will!
(Professional movers will for sure — we can’t say for sure that your college roommate Jeff knows his way around the bed of a moving truck on a Saturday morning. I mean, come on, have you ever seen Jeff on a Saturday morning?)
With a full team of movers, your trucks will be loaded in no time. I mean, the math just works out. If you have 1,000 plastic moving boxes and 1 mover, that person is going to have to haul 1,000 boxes themselves. But if you have 1,000 movers, everyone can be assigned their box and can load it up and bring it to your new place.
Don’t move alone. Find 1,000 people and make moving easier.
Avengers: Disassemble
Tear your big furniture apart limb by limb, and pack it up into a moving truck separately to maximize space and efficiency. This neat little sadistic-sounding moving trick will make moving easier by freeing up space in your vehicles while also making things lighter!
Think about it: You can lug a big ol’ kitchen table outside, or you can offer to take off its legs and bring those out. You know what they say, four legs are lighter than a table!
This goes for all the big furniture: tables, chairs, couches, beds, desks, indoor playsets and yes, even your life-size Han Solo statue. Disassembling large furniture during your move will free up space in your moving truck, make items lighter and speed up the entire moving process for everyone.
Think Of Your Truck Like a Glass Jar Full of Sand and Rocks
You know the analogy, right? If you have a bunch of rocks and sand and a jar, you need to put the rocks in the jar first and fill in the gaps with the sand. Putting the sand in and then the rocks will prevent the jar from closing and all the rocks from fitting.
So too must you prioritize the distribution of your personal belongings, including big furniture, plastic moving boxes, clothes and breakable items. Heavier and bulkier stuff should go in first to ensure there is enough room in the truck. Then you can fill in the space with more breakable items or smaller plastic moving boxes. This will
help with even weight distribution and will make moving easier.
Find Stackable Moving Boxes
Knowing how to pack a moving truck is just one way to expedite the moving process and save time and energy during your move. Plastic moving boxes that stack neatly on top of each other are a great way to quickly grab individual boxes, move them to where they need to be, and load them up while saving space and time.
